During this 90-minute session, our focus will be on thoroughly evaluating your newborn's mouth and ensuring a proper latch onto the breast. We will closely observe a breastfeeding session, offering guidance as needed. Additionally, we'll delve into discussions about the mother's diet during breastfeeding, addressing the potential need for supplements by mom or baby. To provide a holistic overview, we'll conduct a comprehensive checkup on your baby, assessing growth and addressing any queries or concerns you may have. This may be done in hospital or at the rooms.

This is for moms and babies who have already had an initial consultation with Sr Sally.

During our 30-minute chat, we'll cover topics such as expressing and storing breast milk, the ideal time to start pumping, and techniques for providing your baby with your breast milk. Additionally, we'll determine your flange size to ensure a proper fit.

In the initial 10 days following birth, we offer a comprehensive one-hour first newborn check conducted by Sr Sally who is a Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Lactation Consultant. We can also get our in-house Chiropractor (Dr Jacqui/Dr Kate) to assess your baby. During this thorough examination, we meticulously assess your baby from head to toe, conduct a precise weight measurement, and evaluate various growth factors. Our focus extends beyond physical examination to address any feeding challenges and establish healthy awake times for your newborn. This holistic approach ensures the well-being of both the infant and the new parent, fostering a supportive environment for the crucial early days of your baby's life.

To ensure your baby stays on track with the childhood immunization schedule, we'll administer two vaccinations at a time, spaced approximately every three months. This carefully coordinated approach aims to have your baby fully up to date between the ages of 18 months and 2 years, providing comprehensive protection during this crucial developmental stage.

18 months is usually when we boost the immune system against Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough, Polio, Hep B and Haemophilus Influenzae type b - this is the 4th dose your baby will receive.

Vaccination against Hepatitis A only

If your child has missed specific vaccinations, the cost will vary based on the required immunizations. For clarification, kindly consult Sr Sally. The consultation fee is R400, separate from the vaccination costs. Payment by card is accepted, and you can seek reimbursement from your medical aid after the appointment. Your child's health and immunization needs are our priority, and we aim to provide clarity and flexibility in managing associated costs.

At 6 years of age, we administer booster vaccinations against DTaP, Polio, and the combined vaccine for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (2 vaccinations).

At the age of 12, a single vaccination of DTaP and IPV is offered, with the option to include cervical cancer (HPV) vaccinations. The most common side effects are a mildly sore arm on the afternoon or the next day, occasionally accompanied by a slight headache and a temporary "off" feeling for a day or two post-vaccination. It's reassuring to note that children can typically resume their normal routine, including school attendance, on the day or the following day of vaccination.

Vaccinations against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) are initiated at the age of 9 years for both boys and girls. Gardasil 9, though pricier, offers protection against an additional 5 strains compared to Gardasil 4, enhancing the spectrum of immunity provided. This choice ensures a more robust defense against HPV-related health risks, underscoring the importance of comprehensive protection for individuals from an early age.
